The houses are located on the outskirts
of the picturesque village of Albas, which is at least as beautiful
as
St. Cirq-la-Popie. Albas is situated in a valley along the river Lot,
25 km. west of Cahors. The valley offers
breathtaking views of the green and rocky hills on either side. Fields
of sunflowers, forests and the river Lot which
meanders through the beautiful landscape, complete the picture. Whether
you like nature, tranquillity or action…
you can find it all in Albas! |
Albas is situated in the center
of the more than 200 vineyards that can be found between the city
of Cahors and the
village of Puy l’Eveque and is famous for its wine festival.
This festival will be organized each year on Ascension Day.
It attracts people from the entire region and is definitely worth
paying a visit.
But also outside of this period there are plenty of wine château’s
to visit, where you can taste and buy the famous
‘Cahors’ wine. The Lot is known for its foie gras, duck,
truffle, confits, mushrooms, nuts and game. You can find plenty
of little bistros and restaurants in the near surroundings, where
you can enjoy these local delicacies. |
Do you like to hike? There are
more than enough opportunities to do so in this region and several
hiking trails start from
Albas. GR’s and the route of Santiago the Compostella are nearby.
Roman remains and an astonishing landscape
ensure it will be a varied walk. In addition, there are opportunities
to play tennis, swim, and cycle or go horse riding in
the surrounding area. You can also rent a canoe, kayak or motorboat
for a daytrip on the Lot or the Dordogne. In the
vicinity several golf courts can be found. |
Cultural trips can be made to Toulouse,
the pilgrim city of Rocamadour (and the nature reserve for wild birds
nearby),
Montauban or Agen. Even a daytrip to Lourdes is possible. Several
famous castles and caves can be visited in the
surrounding area, such as the village of Caix, where you can find
the wine chateau that belongs to the Danish Royal
Family. Can you already picture yourself wondering around the weekly
‘brocantes’ and combining this with a real
French lunch on a sunny terrace? |
In comparing to the Dordogne, the
region Lot is still relatively quiet and authentically French. In
addition, the Mediterranean
Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees are only a three-hour drive
away. Therefore you can easily combine your stay
in Albas with other holiday plans.
The region is accessible: by car via the A10 to Cahors; by plain via
Toulouse or Bergerac or by train to Cahors. |
